NOTES: According to wikipedia … “San Carlos de Bariloche, usually known as Bariloche, is a city in the province of Río Negro, Argentina, situated in the foothills of the Andes on the southern shores of Nahuel Huapi Lake”. Depicted is a church (I assume) though i’m not sure which one. It isn’t either of the two most famous ones Cathedral of San Carlos de Bariloche or Capilla de San Eduardo. PLACE REPRESENTED: Vienna (specifically Donaustadt) , Austria

ITEM: Wall Plate

NOTES: Donaustadt (literally, Danube City) is the 22nd district of Vienna, Austria. The city is old but but the district is new (established 1946).Most of the sites are from other districts though the Donauturm tower (opened 1964) is depicted.

NOTES: Nothing fancy here. Accurate though. Botswana’s national colours are light blue, black and white. Quite striking and I dare say you will be the only person out wearing a Botswanan cap … well apart from  guy I know.

NOTES: A Present from Worthing … as it was circa 1925. Worthing is a large seaside town on the south coast of England … and the pier is still there, albeit destroyed and rebuilt a couple of times. The current one is the more art deco one from 1935. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worthing_Pier

NOTES: Rustic colonial style pottery depicting three sites from Melbourne: Flinders Street Station, the trams, and Captain Cooks cottage (which Captain Cook never lived in, well, not in Australia – it was brought to Melbourne in 1934 from England.

NOTES: Irish Family names on a map of Ireland with the usual symbols of Ireland : the thatched roof cottage, Glendalough Round Tower, a Celtic cross, a drinking cup and a gold collar. I’m not sure how accurate it is an ancestry location locator but many, many Irish surnames are shown.

SPLIT , CROATIA – Wall Ornament

PLACE REPRESENTED: Split , Croatia

ITEM: Wall Plate

NOTES: Split, featuring St Dominius Cathedral, done in pyrography (wood decorated with burn marks) on a carved plate. St Dominius (Katedrala Svetog Duje) is located inside the gates of Diocletian’s Palace built in Roman times as the Mausoleum of Diocletian before being converted to a church in the 7th century. Mass is still held here today, making it one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals in the world still in use in its original structure.

NOTES: Typical Australian humour. Apparently. Well it’s not Barry Humphries but it is amusing. The only problem is, with the exception of Melbourne the weather is pretty consistent. Where it’s rainy, it rains all the time. Where it’s dry, it’s dry all the time ….
