NOTES: How many oven mitt holders do you come across? This stylish piece of timber has room for the keys in the half urn whilst your mitts can hang from below. How do I know it as oven mitt holder? By the writing, “Take a holder from this hook, save your fingers when you cook”. The “Grand Canyon Nat’l Park” in a different font and writing indicates this may have been a “insert place name here” souvenir. Still, an oven mitt holder!

ITEM: Small dish or ashtray

NOTES: A striking aluminium stamped small dish or ashtray commemorating New York City and its Empire State Building. Unsure of the age, but it has the Empire State Building as the tallest building, which it was from 1931 to 1971. The pressed aluminium cries out mass produced “art deco”. It is certainly a souvenir that wont break or deteriorate quickly.

NOTES: Juneau is the capital of Alaska, and the Red Dog Saloon is the oldest man-made tourist attraction in Juneau, founded during Juneau’s mining era (around the 1880s I suppose). NOTES: A tourist trinket with a specific agenda: “Meet me Under the Clock” and on the back, at the Renaissance Hotel in NYC on New Years Eve 1996. “Meet Me Under the Clock” is a place where many people meet, a clock being in times past a not common item, so everyone would know where it was. The phrase, apparently, can be traced to J. D. Salinger who would meet William Shawn, the editor of The New Yorker, with that phrases, under the New York Biltmore Hotel’s lobby clock. The New York Biltmore Hotel ceased operation when the building was gutted in August 1981. The Renaissance is now a Marriott hotel on New York Times Square.
