CYPRUS – Copperart Picture

PLACE REPRESENTED: Cyprus

ITEM: Copper Art Wall Ornament

NOTES: I love these copper art wall pictures. The copper art depicts the Kamares Aqueduct near Larnaca, Cyprus. Built in 1747 and in use until 19396. The doves in the foreground must refer to the peace that all Cypriots hope for and don’t always have. Bottom left proudly states “Handmade” in Cyprus … and rightly they should. I love the handmade travel trinkets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamares_Aqueduct

SWITZERLAND – Ashtray

PLACE REPRESENTED: Switzerland

ITEM: Ashtray

NOTES: Switzerland or Suisse to the the French. I wonder why no Italian, German or Romansh (Svizzera, Schweizerische, Svizra) being that all four are official languages? In any event the English adjective Swiss comes from the French Suisse. This cast iron ashtray is stylish and substantial and depicts places of interest, Zurich, Eiger Monch Jungland, Zermatt, Liechtenstein I technically not part of Switzerland), Lucerne, Geneva, Monteaux as well as a couple of St. Bernard dogs.

LONDON, ENGLAND – Small Dish

PLACE REPRESENTED: London , England

ITEM: Small Dish

NOTES: A dish celebrating the “great Twelve Companies” of London or rather, the Great Twelve Livery Companies” of London. The Livery companies were employment based and with the nature of guilds. They played an important part of the culture and development of London (and England). Like guilds they were for the benefits of their members and, like guilds, the Livery Companies of London accumulated property and possessed magnificent halls. Charters were granted to them in return for large sums of money advanced to the State. These are the first 12 main ones. There are 110 now. Clearly there isn’t one for “souvenir makers” otherwise this wouldn’t have been made in Italy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livery_company

AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND – Stationery

PLACE REPRESENTED: Amsterdam , Holland

ITEM: Stationery

NOTES: A novelty, oversize pencil with a bell attached depicting all the sites of Amsterdam, well almost everything … there is no Red Light district. Maybe that’s what the bell is for. That’s cryptic. Actually, that makes no sense. In any event the bell becomes annoying when writing, though the a novelty oversized pencil is not commonly used.
