ITEM: Shot Glass

NOTES: The Rijeka coat of arms with the twin headed eagle (which reflects the double-headed Reichsadler used by the Holy Roman Empire Habsburg emperors) standing on a pitcher with water coming from the same. Rijeka means river in Croatian hence the water from the pitcher. NOTES: The Blessed Virgin amongst shells with the town name written in (read: insert any town name). Actually, Pula is quite a spectacular mid-size Catholic Croatian coastal town.

Well, that explains the shells and the Blessed Virgin.

Ireland - Ceramic Celtic Cross (1)

ITEM: Religious Ornament

NOTES: St Brigid’s cross specific to Ireland.

It is traditionally made from rushes or straw and it is believed that a Brigid’s Cross protects the house from fire and evil. Accordingly, it is hung in many Irish and Irish-American kitchens for this purpose.

NOTES: Perfectly Hawaiian …. forks with pineapple handles sitting in a larger pineapple holder.

All I need is some hors d’oeuvres, the “Blue Hawaii” soundtrack, a pina colada, and a fan and I’m there.

ITEM: Coffee Mug

NOTES: Pula’s famous amphitheatre in Istra (Croatian regionalism). Interestingly the mug also has the Italian name for Pula on the front, Pola. Trying to cash in on Italian tourism perhaps or hedging bets on Italy’s return?
