MACKAY, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA – Thermometer

PLACE REPRESENTED: Mackay, Queensland , Australia

ITEM: Thermometer

NOTES: I’m not sure why there is a nautical theme here (apart from the obvious “buy souvenirs in bulk and write town name here” aspect). Mackay is in central or northern Queensland (depending on who you ask) coast, though not a port town. The CBD of Mackay is on the Pioneer River as it empties into the ocean, It has Harbour Beach, a marina, and Bluewater Lagoon (a city water park) all of which still don’t really relate to the deep sea seafaring themes depicted (though design is quite good – a ships wheel and anchor combined with a sailing ship).

NHULUNBUY, AUSTRALIA – Thermometer

PLACE REPRESENTED: Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory , Australia

ITEM: Thermometer

NOTES: Shells and thermometers. It doesn’t matter where you are, though on the water would be preferable, shells and thermometers always go together. Where do these shells come from? Not Nhulunbuy, surely. Maybe, it’s on the coast. Nhulunbuy is the name of the township on the Gove Peninsula in the Northern Territory. This is remote!

YEAR (APPROXIMATE): 1970s

MADE FROM: shells

TURIN, ITALY – Thermometer

PLACE REPRESENTED: The Superga Basilica, Turin , Italy

ITEM: Thermometer

NOTES: I’m not sure what the guitar shape has to do with a basilica so I assume it’s a tribute to the Torino guitar from Turin (Torino being the Italian for Turin). This is a well detailed and elegant trinket and what you would expect from the less rustic Italian north.

MADE FROM: ceramic material , chain

MADE IN:  Italy

MANUFACTURER: unknown

DIMENSIONS: 7cm  across , 21cm high
