NOTES: A plastic cup celebrating the heart of lead, silver, copper and zinc mining in Australia. The cup certainly doesn’t try to hide the industrial nature of a mining town in Queensland’s west … the only surprise is it’s made of plastic.

ITEM: Cup NOTES: A plastic cup, ubiquitous amongst 1970s Australian souvenirs. Here a serene picture of the waterfront at Ballina, on New South Wales far north coast, offers you “greetings” The other photo is either testament to the fact that there isn’t much to photograph in Ballina, or, perhaps, Ballina by night.

NOTES: Land’s End certainly lives up to its name being on the furtherest southern western point of the English mainland. This beautifully detailed cup with about everything you can do and see. On the other side the famous “First and Last House In England” is depicted … which, apparently, is a little (expensive) shop by itself on the edge of a very windy, but visually stunning, cliff.

NOTES: The Loreley is a rock on the Rhine near St. Goarshausen, Germany. It rises to about 120 metres above the waterline and is the most famous feature of the Rhine Gorge. According to wikipedia, “A very strong current and rocks below the waterline have caused many boat accidents there”. NOTES: A souvenir cup of Sydney with a montage mural, vividly coloured, of all the main attractions of Sydney at the time. It looks quite inviting.

NOTES: A steel cup. Kings Canyon (which is part of the Watarrka National Park in remote Northern Territory, Australia, about 323 km south-west of Alice Springs).

Everything suggests this souvenir had a functional use around a camp fire.

TALBINGO, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA – Cup

Talbingo - Steel Mug (1)PLACE REPRESENTED: Talbingo, New South Wales , Australia

ITEM: Steel Cup

NOTES: Talbingo is a small town in south east country New South Wales at the edge of the Snowy Mountains, on the Tumut River and the Jounama Dam.

As the cup indicates they love their freshwater fishing and even have a Talbingo Fishing Club and an annual fishing competition, the Yamaha Jounama Classic.

This cup has seen quite a few camp fires and is made of the finest Chinese steel, made from ore imported from Australia no doubt. Ahhhh, where would we be without primary industries. Where will we be without them in the near future?
