VIENNA, AUSTRIA – Wall Plate

PLACE REPRESENTED: Vienna , Austria

ITEM: Wall Plate

NOTES: A boy and girl in the traditional Vienna clothing. ‘Tracht’ is the word used in Austria for their traditional clothing and fashion. It is worn very often in the Austrian countryside, less in cities – only for special and formal occasions like weddings or receptions. Women wear ‘Dirndls’, a close-fitting bodice combined with an apron in different colors; either it is sleeveless and worn with a cotton and lace blouse, or it has sleeves and a high neck. Men wear ‘Lederhosen’, knee-length trousers or short-pants made from leather, worn with rustic shoes and wool socks. Should be more of it.

TIROL, AUSTRIA – Small Wall Ornament

PLACE REPRESENTED: Tirol , Austria

ITEM: Small wooden wall ornament display plate. NOTES: The region of Tirol (or Tyrol) exists in both Italy (Tirolo) and Austria (Tirol). The spelling indicates this is from the Austrian side but the wooden plate and rustic feel of it reminds me of Italian trinkets. I have another similar ornament and wondered if the flowers depicted are region specific or just random? Those there are similar to the ones here so they could be regionally specific. Small but stylish with pyrography and vivid colours.

KAPRUN, AUSTRIA – Wall Hanging

Kaprun - Austria - wall relief plate (1)PLACE REPRESENTED: Kaprun , Austria

ITEM: Wall Hanging

NOTES: “Gruss aus Kaprun” means “Greetings from Kaprun”.

Kaprun is a municipality in western Austria famous for its glacier Kitzsteinhorn, skiing and tourism.

This well detailed hard resin wall hanging, is no doubt, made to replace the old traditional wooden wall carvings of the same style. It’s even made to look like it’s made of wood. The plate is detailed with the town, glacier, mountains and dams. I suppose it is post 2000 as the two funicular railways, the site of the Kaprun disaster of 2000, are not depicted.

TIROL, AUSTRIA – Wall Ornament

Tirol - small wall plate - wood (1)PLACE REPRESENTED: Tirol , Austria

ITEM: Small wooden display plate.

NOTES: The region of Tirol (or Tyrol) exists in both Italy (Tirolo) and Austria (Tirol). The spelling indicates this is from the Austrian side but the wooden plate and rustic feel of it reminds me of Italian trinkets. I wonder if the flowers depicted are region specific or just random? These plates are everywhere in Europe and are clearly machine shopped, somewhere, before someone added whatever place name, decorative touches, and painting to them.

ITEM: Decorative Cow Bell ornament.

NOTES: Austria and cow bells?

For sure.

Austria is Alpine and there is truckloads of grassland and pasture so cattle farming and dairy production are important agricultural production sectors.

There is something ye olde worlde and distinctly middle European about cow bells.

Isn’t there?
