NOTES: Makarska, Croatia done in pyrography (wood decorated with burn marks) on a carved plate. Being on the coast a boat features and I’ve seen the same boat feature on other pyrography souvenirs though attributed to different places. Each boat may be the same but being hand applied pyrography means each is entirely individual (with minor differences).

NOTES: A miniature pitcher depicting Vallorbe in Western Switzerland. Alpine mountains, pines, green fields, and the wooden hut are all depicted. Nice, but odd. Vallorbe is on the Orbe river and is quite middle European in architecture. In protest against cynicism and the thought that this is produced for many towns and “insert name here” applies I will suggest that the depiction is from outside the town, somewhere else in the municipality.

NOTES: Wales, the least troublesome of the United Kingdom’s “independent” countries (read former dominions) (sorry Welsh people … there mat be pride but there is no republic). The Welsh Dragon (Welsh: Y Ddraig Goch, meaning the red dragon) is a national symbol and appears on the national flag of Wales. In 1953 Ddyryn Cychwyn was added, meaning “the red dragon inspires action”. It would be good if it does.

NOTES: Cruz Alta is a town the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil near the Argentinian and Uruguayan borders. This probably explains the gaucho-esque painting on this piece of leather … it’s cow country. Portuguese is spoken though there is a Gaúcho Portuguese dialect due to the proximity with Argentina and Uruguay and their common Gaucho past. I’m not sure how to say Yeee-Hah in Gaúcho Portuguese but it would be apt here.
