MALAYSIA – Key Ring

Malaysia - key ring (1)

PLACE REPRESENTED:   Malaysia

ITEM: Key Ring  Holder

NOTES: A dainty little key ring made out of material and wood with a bell attached underneath. Clearly the bell is not there to help you find your keys (think about it) … it must be to give you a little aural magic you walk along. It is all very delicate. I don’t think it would last long in my pocket.

YEAR (APPROXIMATE): 2000s

MADE FROM: wood , material , steel

MADE IN:  unknown

MANUFACTURER: unknown

DIMENSIONS: 14cm long  (including chain)

MYKONOS, GREECE – Candle Holder

Mykonos - Greece - candle holder (1)PLACE REPRESENTED: Mykonos , Greece

ITEM: Candle Holder

NOTES: A really nice tea tree candle holder with coloured and painted glass. Quite evocative for a recent travel trinket. Mykonos is a Greek island in the Aegean and has, the typically, white houses and the famous Mykonos windmills as depicted on the glass. Mykonos’ nickname is “The island of the winds” which explains the windmills, and possibly why the candle needs to be encased in a lantern!

Much more subtle than the Australian comedy “The Kings of Mykonos” (2010).

YEAR (APPROXIMATE): 2000s

MADE FROM: steel , glass

MADE IN:  unknown

MANUFACTURER: unknown

DIMENSIONS: 20.5cm high x 7.5cm wide at base

BYRON BAY, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA – Ornament

Byron Bay - Ornament - Steel Figure (1)PLACE REPRESENTED: Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia.

Who knows how many of these have been sold.

JUNEAU, ALASKA, USA – Cap

juneau-alaska-cap-red-dog-saloon-1

PLACE REPRESENTED: Juneau, Alaska, USA specifically The Red Dog Saloon.

ITEM: Cap

NOTES: Juneau is the capital of Alaska, and the Red Dog Saloon is the oldest man-made tourist attraction in Juneau, founded during Juneau’s mining era (around the 1880s I suppose). Actually the saloon has been in a few places in town but they had the historical (?) sense to move the whole saloon in the process. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Dog_Saloon

CROATIA – Bottle

croatia-bottle-in-wooden-sleeve-1PLACE REPRESENTED:   Croatia

ITEM: Bottle

NOTES: A modern version of the traditional Croatian spirit bottle. There is actually a bottle encased in the carved wood. A good idea, especially if you drop it after, err, a few shots. No doubt it is meant to hold slivovitz (plum brandy) given the fruit carved into one of the faces (which look to be plums). This is wonderfully detailed with the Croatian emblem and colours. A bonus would be if it came with slivovitz. Wait, I think it did … but it is all gone now. Evaporation?

YEAR (APPROXIMATE): 2000s

MADE FROM: wood , glass

MADE IN:   Croatia probably

MANUFACTURER: unknown

DIMENSIONS: 17cm wide , 23.5cm tall
